Listen to your body
Welcome to the eighth and final meditation in this Mini Somatic Series exploring the language the body uses.
It is quite incredible really, our ability to time-travel to absolutely anywhere through thought alone. However, we can often fall into patterns of rumination, as the mind replays the past or anticipates, predicting the future. While this is a natural part of being human, it can also keep the nervous system in a state of vigilance, making it difficult to fully experience the safety and stability available in the present moment. Presence is not about emptying the mind or eliminating thoughts; it is simply the practice of returning your awareness to what is happening here and now.
When we shift our attention from the stories in our mind to the sensations in our body, we begin to hear a different kind of wisdom. Every sensation, whether it’s tension, warmth, heaviness, ease or fluttering, is part of the body’s way of communicating what it has noticed, experienced or needs. Rather than trying to change or analyse these signals, we can simply become curious about them. The more we learn to listen to the language of the body, the more connected, regulated and responsive we become.
Throughout this series, we have explored presence (1/8), cultivated moments of safety (2/8), reconnected with the breath (3/8), released built-up activation through shaking (4/8), softened tension held in the jaw (5/8), invited release through the pelvic floor (6/8) and allowed frustration to move safely through the body (7/8). Each practice has been a reminder that regulation isn’t something we force or talk ourselves into; it’s something we create by listening to the body’s signals with curiosity and compassion.
As you experience this final micro-moment, remember that presence is always available to you. Please return to this practice whenever you notice yourself becoming caught up in the past, worrying about the future or feeling disconnected from your body and allow this simple moment of awareness to help you come home to yourself, reconnect with the present and simply… be here now.
Want to Go Deeper?
If you’re feeling drawn to this work and want to learn how to support the body and nervous system intentionally, application is open for my upcoming training in January.
This training is designed for practitioners, space holders, and curious humans who want to deepen their understanding of somatics, nervous system regulation, embodiment and working with the wisdom of the body.
Inside the 150h training, you’ll learn how to:
• Understand trauma through the lens of the body
• Guide clients safely through regulation and emotional release practices
• Build confidence structuring trauma-informed sequences
• Hold spaces that feel safe and deeply transformative
• Integrate somatic tools into your existing work or begin a new path entirely
“This training should be considered essential, not just for yoga teachers and bodyworkers, but for anyone because this is the most impactful and vital work you can ever do on yourself!“
– Laura, Yoga Teacher
